Milena Del Valle, 38, is killed in the new Big Dig tunnel.

Del Valle is struck by concrete ceiling tiles that fall from the roof of the tunnel connecting the Massachusetts Turnpike with the Ted Williams Tunnel. The Jamaica Plain resident was a passenger in a car driven by her husband. The accident forces the closure of that section of the recently-completed roadway for months while an investigation is conducted and repairs are made.
